Gala Games is a play-to-earn Ethereum-based gaming platform that allows users to not only earn assets but also buy and sell them. It was introduced in 2019 by Eric Schiermeyer and Michael McCarthy. Schiermeyer had experience in digital gaming before starting this project, and even participated in the creation of MySpace. Gala Games aim to make the blockchain aspect of their products “invisible” in order to attract not only blockchain enthusiasts, prioritizing fun, and their users’ needs.
The Gala Games gaming platform allows users to earn assets, including NFTs while playing their games. The blockchain is one of the projects on the crypto market that tackles the issue of gamers lacking the ability to truly own the items earned in the virtual world. Each game on the platform allows users to get rewarded with crypto assets including GALA. The games live on the Gala Games platform include multiplay online battle arenas, real-time strategies, and role-playing games. Gala Games is also bridged to the BNB network and has worked with the Polygon network in the past. GALA is an ERC-20 token powering the platform and is mainly used to purchase in-game items, Founder’s Node, allowing them to vote on the platform’s development and incentivization.
In July 2022, Gala Games announced that they are partnering up with OpenSea to host a secondary market for NFTs, allowing users to list and purchase assets they have earned while gaming.
